Letter to Editor: Sharon of Kingsport, TN
Sharon of Kingsport, TN writes:
I am a person of faith and a grandmother who has seen first-hand the benefits of the ACA.
My grandson has a condition that will require lifelong medical monitoring and intervention (yet he has a normal expected lifespan). Without Obamacare, his father wouldn’t have been able to accept a better job, and he would have met his lifetime limit when he was five years old. He is now seven. He would not have been receiving the health care he needs for the last two years, and if it is replaced without the mandates for insurance companies to cover pre-existing conditions and to eliminate lifetime caps, he will suffer for the rest of his life.
As a person of faith, I cannot in good conscience enjoy my own excellent health insurance coverage while others do not have that opportunity. It is my duty to help pay for that through my taxes. There is no other practical way for me to do that than through my government.
I plead with Senators Alexander and Corker and Congressman Roe to do the right thing, and to be brave enough to deviate from the party line when necessary.
Sincerely,
Sharon Petke, Kingsport
