Tell Elected Officials to Stop Politicizing the COVID Crisis

Keep Our Children Safe in School

Dear Tennessee Elected Officials:

We believe that most of us want to see our schools open, our children healthy and safe, and local businesses recovered from the crisis of the last year and a half. And in the past year and a half we have also seen that whether we’re from East, Middle or West Tennessee, Black or White, the health of one depends on the health of the person next to them, and the person next to that person.

Our state is now suffering the consequences after months of Gov. Bill Lee undermining the public health response to this crisis, suppressing vital life-saving guidance from the experts, all while passing the buck to local businesses, teachers, parents communities to fend for themselves. Tennessee now lags the country in vaccinations and leads in the country in the dangerous “Delta” variant, endangering our children returning to school and our state’s economic recovery.

The Center for Disease Control and the American Academy of Pediatrics have called for increased vaccinations and temporary mask requirements to keep children and communities safe when school returns. Adopting the AAP and CDC guidance has a track record of working: increased vaccinations and temporary mask requirements keep COVID largely out of schools, while keeping children safe in the classrooms and more businesses open with families at work instead of home quarantining.

Can we count on you do your part to keep our children and community safe by demanding the adoption of the The Center for Disease Control and the American Academy of Pediatrics  guidance for safe schools, including the temporary mask requirements, proven essential at keeping children healthy and our schools and businesses safely open?
