NEW WEB AD: Senate GOP Exempts Itself from Health Care Repeal
(Nashville, TN) – In light of revelations that the latest Senate health care repeal bill added a provision to exempt Members of Congress, including Senator Lamar Alexander and Senator Corker, from some of the most harmful parts of the their own bill, Save My Care is airing a new web video advertisement to make the public aware of the last minute attempt by Senate Republicans to protect themselves — while hurting everyone else. The only group of people whose health care is protected under the latest version of repeal is Members of Congress themselves.
Last week, VOX reported that: “Senate Republicans included a provision that exempts members of Congress and their staff from part of their latest health care plan. This exemption could have the effect of ensuring that members of Congress have coverage for a wider array of benefits than other Americans who purchase their own coverage.”
The web ad reminds voters that the health care repeal bill — though it now protects Members of Congress — will still lead to tens of millions of ordinary Americans losing coverage, will still allow insursers to deny coverage for people with pre-existing conditions, still includes unprecedented slashing of Medicaid, and still lets insurers charge up to 5 times more for people over 50.
Save My Care is a grassroots community of Americans from all 50 states who have come together as a movement to oppose the repeal of the Affordable Care Act, and push for positive solutions to our health care challenges.
