Letter to Editor: Elizabeth of Nashville, TN

When I was pregnant with my second child in 2012, I had an abnormal pap test for the first time in my adult life. While the ACA took effect in 2010, the pre-existing conditions were not eliminated until 2014. So, while I was so excited about my pregnancy, I was very worried, too. Our insurance company sent us a letter indicating they wouldn’t cover any treatment should I have another abnormal pap. For two years, I worried. I ended up being lucky. I continue to be healthy and for the past two years, I have been able to breath a bit easier because of the ACA. Sadly, I don’t feel that way anymore. I know I will be marked with a pre-existing condition, should that be eliminated from the replacement of the ACA. I know my family & I could lose everything.

I call on Senators Alexander and Corker to stand by their word to NOT repeal the ACA until a replacement plan is in place. I’m one of their 526,000 constituents who stands to lose insurance. Millions of lives across our country hang in the balance. These men will be forever remembered for how they handle this issue.
