Dr. Phelps on the ACA Lawsuit: “I’m Ringing the Alarm”

In response to today’s arguments in the U.S. Fifth Court of Appeals on the validity of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), challenged in the lawsuit Texas v. United States, Dr. Thomas Phelps, a retired family physician, issued the following response:

“We’re getting closer to the possible repeal of the ACA. After the Fifth Circuit rules, the future of ACA will be in the hands of the Supreme Court. It seems incomprehensible that the ACA could be repealed, especially after 2017 when millions of Americans rallied to (successfully) stop ‘repeal and replace’ of the health law in Congress in 2017. That’s why I’m ringing the alarm: we could lose the entire ACA and protections for millions of Tennesseans with pre-existing conditions. By participating in this ridiculous lawsuit, we know Attorney General Slatery is fine taking health insurance from millions of Tennesseans, but I’m not.”
