NEW REPORT: GOP HEALTH CARE REPEAL BILL WOULD LEAD TO LONG-TERM JOB LOSS AND ECONOMIC DECLINE

35,800 Tennessee Jobs Would Be Lost by 2026

(NASHVILLE, TN) – A new report from The Commonwealth Fund estimates that the Senate health care repeal bill would drastically lower employment and economic activity.  States that expanded Medicaid would experience the most severe economic losses.

The report outlines that after a brief increase in economic activity in 2018, the reductions in support for health insurance will cause significant negative economic effects by 2026. States that expanded Medicaid would have faster and deeper losses.

In Tennessee, 35,800 jobs would be lost (including 17,300 in the health care sector), gross state product would be over $4.6 billion lower, and business output would fall by more than $7.7 billion by 2026.
